If the famous Jenolan Caves are on your travel itinerary Oberon in the Blue Mountains is the perfect spot from which to plan your caving adventure. There are a number of ways visitors can tour the caves.

Also, be sure to treat yourself to a visit to the unspoilt natural environment of Kanangra-Boyd National Park. The park accommodates vehicle-based camping, and you can go for a swim and fish along the Boyd River. If you prefer accommodation without wheels, Oberon, of course, features other comfortable options.

Rural Oberon prides itself on its strong sense of community and is a producer of lamb, beef cattle and vegetables. In springtime, vibrant wildflowers greet those lucky enough to visit. From Oberon, you're also within easy access for exploring other scenic and entertaining areas of the Blue Mountains, including Katoomba and Lithgow.

Oberon is only about two and a half hours from Sydney, so you could travel up to enjoy some of the fresh country air on a Friday afternoon and be back in time for work on Monday. If you're looking for a change of pace and a feeling of seclusion, Oberon is the perfect holiday destination.

It's worth noting that Oberon tends to get fairly cold in winter because of its high altitude - it has been known to snow during July and August. But the good news is there are a number of quality accommodation options in Oberon that will allow you to warm up in front of an open fire while watching snow fall by your window. This makes Oberon an excellent choice for couples and honeymooners who just want to spend some quality time together away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

If you're travelling with your kids or with a large group of friends, it is possible to rent a house in Oberon where you can cook your own meals. This is also a great option if you want to use Oberon as a base for exploring the rest of the Blue Mountains region.

Oberon is packed full of outdoor activity options - such as golf (there is a golf club not far from the centre of town) and fishing (Lake Oberon is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed day of fishing). Meanwhile, bird watchers will be delighted by seeing many different species of Australian native birds in their natural habitat.
