Dolphin and whale cruises, fishing, sailboarding and scuba diving are among the water activities in Forster, just a few hours’ drive north of Sydney in the marvellous Great Lakes region. The beaches around Forster are beautiful, starting with Main Beach and its ocean baths.
A short walk from Main Beach is Pebbly Beach, a popular location for snorkelling. Other beaches to enjoy include One Mile Beach and McBrides Beach, ideal to escape for a day. Seven Mile Beach stretches south from Cape Hawke to Booti Hill and the Ruins, great for fishing and surfing.
Few places offer such a superb choice of fishing, from deep-sea charters to lake, rock and river or beach fishing. Amble along the Bicentennial Trail, sample fresh local oysters farmed in Wallis Lake and explore Booti Booti National Park, a narrow isthmus between the lake and the sea.
For spectacular views, climb the stairs of Cape Hawke lookout in the national park. Whales migrate along the coast of NSW between May and November. You can take a whale-watching cruise with Amaroo Cruises in Forster. Dolphin-watching cruises are available, too.
