Marion Bay is a perfect base for exploring Innes National Park and the 'bottom end' of the peninsula. It is surrounded by beaches with a sheltered swimming beach popular with families and a surf beach on the other side. The local Aboriginal name was Cockadowie, meaning 'head of the bay or water'.
Popular as a fishing destination, the town offers great boat, jetty, beach, rock and surf fishing. Catch squid from the jetty, or offshore find snapper, nannygai, big whiting, and sharks. Nearby Browns Beach is legendary for its salmon fishing, with big mullet also caught here. Marion Bay's autumn mullet run is a draw card for beach anglers.
Surfers are spoilt for choice, with several popular surfing beaches found just 16 kilometres away in Innes National Park. The park provides great opportunities for bush and beach walking, photography and bird watching.
Also found in Marion Bay are the award winning Marion Bay Tavern and Marion Bay Motel, so why not stay for a while and discover the many hidden pleasures and treasures?
Yorke Peninsula Council has developed a desalination plant at Marion Bay. Designed primarily to supply the caravan park with potable water, water from the plant is also reticulated to some commercial premises in Marion Bay and made available to local residents and contractors via standpipes.
