Coal, The Black Gold, is what Wonthaggi is based on. Home to Victoria’s only winnable underground black coal, Wonthaggi is now rediscovering its history. During the disastrous New South Wales coal strikes at the turn of the century, Wonthaggi and its black coal reserves were exploited by the Victorian Government in response to this national emergency. Wonthaggi is home to a large variety of shops, eateries, supermarkets and accommodation. For entertainment the local theatre presents latest release movies and a variety of shows throughout the year. The local clubs provide meals, gaming facilities, entertainment, live bands and shows..

Location: 128 kilometres south-east of Melbourne.
